美国哥伦比亚大学的金融硕士申请一直备受中国学生青睐。殊不知，除了在商学院开设的 Master of Science in Financial Economics 项目外，还有其他两个金融相关的硕士项目，一个是开设在工业工程和运筹学系下面的金融工程(MS in Financial Engineering)，另一个是开设在数学系下面的数学金融(Master in Mathematics of Finance)。那么，这三个金融相关项目差别在哪里呢?本文是哥伦比亚大学金融硕士项目比较。

　　不论是先修课程要求还是未来学习的课程方面，这三个项目都存在着比较大的差异。以下列出这三个项目分别要求的先修课程：

　　If possible, an exposure to advanced calculus and mathematical analysis at the level of W4061-4062 "Principles of Mathematical Analysis".

　　Applicants should also have facility with an operating system, such as Windows or LINUX, and with one of programming language such as C, C++, C#, Visual Basic, Matlab, Fortran etc.

　　虽然这三个项目都强调概率论、微积分、线性代数等这些数学能力，但要求的程度各异。由于金融数学项目开设在数学系下，该项目对数学能力的要求较高，学生需 要修读过至少三学期的微积分课程，其他的诸如概率论和统计等课程也需要特定层次的水平方可。录取的学生背景大多数为数学、物理工程以及计算机专业。如果商 科背景的学生有较强的数学背景也可申请。
